Feel the POWER of the darkside!!!

Quote from: United States CIA
Earlier this week, the nation's chief spy screeched about of the danger of cyber attacks -- and the need to monitor what everyone does online, in response. Now, the CIA has made an usually public warning about the perils that network strikes can pose.  Hackers have tried to extort money from overseas utility companies.  At least in one case, the Washington Post reports, the online attackers messed with an electrical grid, disrupting ing power in several cities.

full story

if you don't think they are already monitoring, your a fool. This is just another example of the gov't propaganda and fear mongering. I aint saying the hackers couldn't shut down the power grid or something worse. I am saying there are better ways to stop them than the gov't monitoring what we do on the internet. We got to quit being nice about it. If you start reformatting harddrives, no matter who they belong to, you would start to get rid of some of these zombie bots that prey on the internet. Yes, granny's hdd might get reformatted, but she has had ample time to fix the problem.

How was the West tamed? Bad ass motherfuckers started shooting people and everything fell into place after that. That's what I am proposing here. The internet equivilent of shooting first and asking questions later.

If your computer is infected with something or is a zombie and you still allow it a connection to the internet, no matter if you are aware or not, you deserve what you get. Here's an idea. Why don't you pull your head out of your ass and learn something about the computer you use everyday. And if you can't? Tough shit. Don't use the computer.

CALEA act of 99 states the gov must be able to monitor whenever they want.  Just means that the phone co.'s have to open up anytime uncle sam asks.  Humans still have to do the work though (elec co. needs to self monitor).

Well said but aren't there better ways to handle it rather than deleting all the grandkids pics (that surely aren't backed up)Huh

If we have the power to reformat then we should also have the power to just kill the network connection (a lot cheaper to fix too).

And we need smarter routers at the telco... we should have computers and software that detect network botnet attacks and shut down those connections.

All this will be realized once the internet is rebulit (it's kinda like we're drinving an old model T).

If granny is savvy enough to be using email or a digital camera (2 ways granny would have digital pics on her hdd that make sense), she should also know how to keep that desktop free of malware and trojans. If not, then maybe she ought to invest in a 35mm camera and a friend in the Wal-Mart photo dept.

But when that cheap fix is initiated, what guarantee do we have that the original vulnerability has been fixed. You know, the reason we shut down granny would have to be fixed, otherwise when hooked to the network, it starts attacking again. My fix would ensure that all vulnerabilities were dealt with.

But then as soon as she gets online again the card would fail.

No network connection... better then just reformatting.
