We tell people we use Linux because it's secure. Or because it's free, because it's customizable, because it's free (the other meaning), because it has excellent community support...

But all of that is just marketing bullshit. We tell that to non-Linuxers because they wouldn't understand the real reason. And when we say those false reasons enough, we might even start to believe them ourselves.

But deep underneath, the real reason remains.

We use Linux because it's fun!

It's fun to tinker with your system. It's fun to change all the settings, break the system, then have to go to recovery mode to repair it. It's fun to have over a hundred distros to choose from. It's fun to use the command line.

Let me say that again. It's fun to use the command line.

No wonder non-Linuxers wouldn't understand.

The point with us Linux fans is - we use Linux for its own sake. Sure, we like to get work done. Sure, we like to be secure from viruses. Sure, we like to save money. But those are only the side-effects. What we really like is playing with the system, poking around, and discovering completely pointless yet fascinating facts about the OS.

Full Story

I found this on some dude's blog. It's pretty good. And it's sooo true. I mean where else could a guy like me have a swastika on his browser (top right corner)? LMAO

One thing the guy didn't mention in the article is that once you learn something, it pretty much carries over to everything. I have a rebel flag on my other browser and email client (Sea Monkey). Done the same way. I know they're both made by mozilla and that's probably why. That's another thing about linux. You start to understand, not only how to do things, but also why things happen. Linux is THE best way to learn something about computers. Once you start using linux and you boot windows to do your maintenance, you'll start to understand why things happen. You never have to reboot linux. I think this computer I am using has been running for about a month now and I got a server that's been running for about 5 months without a reboot. The only time I've ever had to reboot was when I updated my kernel. Updated the x server and I really didn't even reboot, just restarted x. Linux just fucking works.

Have a good day, Micro$oft suckers. LMAO

The REAL reason we use Linux..................because M$ lies like a dog. I've used XP on a 500MHz CPU with 384MB of RAM. It took ALOT of tweeking to get it to run at a comfortable pace on that machine. I had it cut down to 19 services running in the task manager and most of the time, it was still excruciatingly slow.

Before you install Windows XP Professional, make sure your computer
meets the following minimum hardware requirements:

   * 233 megahertz (MHz) Pentium or higher microprocessor (or
     equivalent)
   * 128 megabytes (MB) recommended (64 MB of RAM minimum;
4 gigabytes (GB) of RAM maximum)
   * 1.5 GB of free space on your hard disk

But as per mine experience with Linux , its really not so comfortable for me and I am not satisfied with this OS . Its complicated and don't have the reliability .

It just takes time to get used to it. As far a reliability, it is, in my opinion, far superior to windows.  I have three linux computers that have been running for months without a restart with no problems. Windows can't touch that. I can also produce visual effects that Win7 still can't do.

The best way to switch over is to have a windows system to fall back on when you can't figure out something in linux until you get used to it.
