Dallas won't pay woman for injuries, damages after hit by police car A Dallas woman's car was hit by a Dallas police car doing 74 miles an hour during a police chase.
The city of Dallas says it won't pay for her damages or injuries, calling it collateral damage.
Tomikki Gray watches the dash camera video and recalls almost every detail.
She remembers seeing a black SUV speed by her out of control. It was an SUV Dallas police were chasing.
"I thought is he was about to start shooting. Is someone chasing him? I looked in my review mirror and I saw the sirens and lights," she said.
Then she felt the impact --a Dallas police squad car hit her going 74 miles per hour, even though she moved her car out of the way.
"We screamed."
Her car was totaled. She had one more payment left on it. Now, the city says they won't pay for her damages because the officer was authorized to chase a suspect wanted for aggravated assault.
Gray says she has neck, back and leg pain and she had to buy a new car which she says she couldn't afford.
"They ruined my car. I had problems. I was hurt and I had problems getting to work and they aren't telling me anything," she said.
The city did not respond to a News 8 request for an explanation about why they aren't paying her damages but, in general police officers and cities aren't responsible when bad things happen in the course of them doing their jobs.
