Obama as role model for black youth? Not so fast

ATLANTA (Reuters) - The election of the first black president in U.S. history should send a powerful signal to young black Americans: If Barack Obama made it, so can you.

But some African Americans living in inner city Atlanta said that while Obama is a role model his life appeared so far removed from their own struggles that it was difficult to see how they could use it to spur their own success.

Others said that even something as momentous as Obama's election would not make it easy to acquire the self-belief that they needed to move forward.

New Lawsuit Filed To Stop California Electoral College

Former presidential candidate Alan Keyes joined the fight to release President-elect Barack Obama's birth certificate this week, suing to keep the California Electoral College from meeting.

The suit is the latest of many lawsuits filed requesting the birth certificate, a document that Mr. Obama has so far refused to produce in court. The lawsuit, filed by Mr. Keyes and the American Independent Party (AIP) in the California Superior Court in Sacramento, requests the court to bar the secretary of State from certifying the names of electors to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-Calif., and from transmitting a certificate of election each presidential elector.

"I and others are concerned that this issue be properly investigated and decided before Sen. Obama takes office," said Mr. Keyes in an AIP press release. "Otherwise there will be a serious doubt as to the legitimacy of his tenure. This doubt would also affect the respect people have for the constitution as the supreme law of the land. I hope the issue can be quickly clarified so that the new president can take office under no shadow of doubt. This will be good for him and for the nation."

The Electoral College will meet in each state capital to cast its votes on Dec. 15. Dec. 1 is also an important debate in the controversy, as Mr. Obama must respond to a federal case in the U.S. Supreme Court by that date, which will be heard by Justice David Souter, a jurist with a liberal reputation.

There is no way Barack would have been eligible to RUN if he weren't a natural born citizen. A story like this is something mainstream news would have picked up on right away and very early on. Not to mention that Hillary would have been all over it. McCain, on the other hand, was born in Panama. Granted his mother was only there because his father was serving in the US Navy, but still he was born outside of this country. The reason McCain is a citizen is because his mother is a citizen, the same is true for Obama who was born in Honolulu.

The mainstream news only reports on what they want you to know.

McCain, on the other hand, was born in Panama. Granted his mother was only there because his father was serving in the US Navy, but still he was born outside of this country. The reason McCain is a citizen is because his mother is a citizen, the same is true for Obama who was born in Honolulu.

That is a naturalized citizen. There are questions about both candidates.

Ok, a naturalized citizen is one that becomes a citizen after birth. A natural born citizen is one that is born in the country they are a citizen of. Of the two men in question Obama is the only one who was actually born within US borders. To say other wise would indicate that you believe that there has been a massive conspiracy including branches of government across several states and on the federal level. Let me make one thing clear. The United States government does NOT have a habit of conspiring on behalf of black men.

Maybe you ought to do a little more research on this...He has produced his birth certificate for the appropriate people. Just because two disgruntled losers didn't get an official copy and Hawaii doesn't make birth certificates public record is no reason to continue to bash the guy.

Alaska officials exchanged racist emails about Barack Obama

One of the five emails obtained by the Associated Press news agency asks about the outcome of the Democrat's victory after all the time and money invested. It concludes: "Another black family living in government housing!"
