Its software.
You remember, i had some apps on that jump drive, and it had a bunch of random hacks and what not. Well one of them allowed you to view the contents of a drive, even if the files had been deleted in windows.

So basicly all it does is it reads the drives hexadecimal code like we would sit and read a book, without any regards to Windows settings or what not. flat out raw data. And gives you the option to restore some of the files that windows may have deleted, or windows doesnt know about because they dont show up in the HD's index.
I had a hard drive crash in my laptop. And basicly the index is fucked, so the new OS doesnt think anything is on that drive, cause it had to create a new index. But there is a bunch of shit on that drive, i just need to access it with a hexadecimal reader.

did it work?

I still don't know why you still fuck w/ windows. Did you lose your windows install?

Could that software be used to read a dvd that the index was lost?
