The Thief

« on: 12/04/07 @ 15:23 »

I just got an email from Sun that offered me 50$ for dinner if i complete my Solaris 10 registration. Also offered me free technical support for any issues i may have while going through with the installation.

So basicly I have to complete the installation and then register with my Sun Solaris 10 OS, and i get 50$ worth of food..

I tried installing Solaris 10 before and ran into a problem with the root password. I found out later i have to contact Sun for this. So im going to give it another free try.. What could it hurt.

Here's the link if you want to install it and get free food Smiley

I thought you hated Solaris. If I remember right, the last time you installed it, you said it blew. LOL

Yea cause i spent 3 hours installing and configuring it, and then right before i got to log into the OS, it asked me for a root password, and i never was given the option to set one up. So that pissed me off... Other than that i use to use it at EDS and it was pretty decent. I just got pissed about the root thing.
I found out later I have to get the Root password from Sun. which is fine, I was just sober then with no patience.

That sounds awful Microsoft-ish. But why should I be suprised. Sun and Novell are kinda like Micro$ofts little brother. Especially Novell

They did at first when Java came with Windows, but they broke it off before XP was released. Now they have a broad technology collaboration arrangement to enable their products to work better together and to settle all pending litigation between the two companies. Cause Sun is making $ on Java, and Java enhances Windows, they kinda have to work together.

BUT
Sol 10 is almost just like Linux, Open Source, FREE, no security needed, and its Unix based...

So i dont know what your basing your opinion on, but i disagree.

No, you have to get the password from them for that distrubution... Once you have it you can do what you wish.

This keeps people from selling it I guess i dunno. But 50$ worth of free gah damn food doesnt sound too bad..

If they're giving it away for free, what does it matter what you do with it. If there are some dumbasses out there that will buy it.

No thanks, I'll stick with linux. When i start learning software code, I can change anything in a linux distro to fit my needs and call it my own. Then if I think it's good enough, I can sell it too. Legally

I quit that business. I still enjoy using it but i'm burned out on all that crap.. Too hard to find work in that area.

I'm focusing on AS400 diagnostics and data processing right now. Even tho its old, the mainframes will always be around as long as Bill Gates is alive LMAO...

yes! What did happen with solaris? I have used Solaris on many of my servers and find them to be very dependable. A bit moody @ times, but always solid. Sun is a very fine company.
